Overview
The Invinity LoDES Project represents a major step forward in the UK’s commitment to renewable energy and grid resilience. The 20.7 MWh vanadium flow-battery installation will enable large-scale energy storage to balance renewable generation and support the transition to net zero.
Clear Environmental were instructed to undertake site investigation and infiltration testing in accordance with BRE Digest 365, providing essential permeability data for the project’s Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) design. With strict timescales in place, our team prioritised efficiency, safety, and precision to ensure reliable data delivery without compromising quality.
Scope
- Ground Investigation & Soil Profiling: Excavation of trial pits to confirm subsurface conditions and identify suitable infiltration horizons.
- BRE 365 Infiltration Testing: Completion of multiple test cycles to determine infiltration coefficients representative of on-site soil permeability.
- Hydrogeological Observations: Recording of soil moisture, groundwater depth, and drainage behaviour to inform design assumptions.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Calculation of infiltration rates and preparation of a concise BRE 365 infiltration report issued within days of testing.

Outcome
Clear Environmental delivered the infiltration rate assessment and full BRE 365 report ahead of programme, allowing the engineering team to finalise the drainage layout and SuDS design.
Our agile response ensured that this landmark energy-storage development progressed without delay while maintaining technical integrity and regulatory compliance.
By combining technical expertise with rapid turnaround, Clear Environmental once again demonstrated our capability to support sustainable infrastructure projects across the UK, providing commercially focused environmental solutions that keep critical developments on track.
