What is BRE 365 Soakaway Testing?
BRE 365 is the recognised industry standard for measuring how quickly water infiltrates into the ground. It allows planners and drainage engineers to determine whether soakaways are a viable surface water drainage solution for your site.
The test involves excavating a trial pit, filling it with water, and measuring how quickly the water drains into the surrounding soil. The resulting infiltration rate directly informs soakaway feasibility, sizing, and design.
Most Local Planning Authorities and Building Control departments require BRE 365 testing before approving soakaway drainage. Without compliant results, drainage strategies are often rejected, leading to redesigns, objections, and costly project delays.
