Clear Environmental was instructed to undertake a targeted ground investigation at a commercial site in Heathrow to support redevelopment planning. The investigation focused on exposing shallow ground conditions and foundations to provide factual information for the structural engineer’s design.

Scope

Scan all exploratory locations with CAT and Genny techniques to ensure they were free from services.

Excavate 6No. manually dug trial pits (up to 1.30m bgl) and 12No. probe holes (up to 0.80m bgl).

Record foundation type, depth, and plan dimensions (length, width, thickness).

Photograph and document foundation condition, noting visible defects, construction joints, material changes, or historic repairs.

Record presence of drainage runs, ducts, or buried structures.

Provide sketches of each trial pit with dimensions and tag locations on plans for integration into the structural model.

Deliver a factual report presenting all findings.

Outcome

Our team successfully completed the programme of scanning, probing, and excavation across the site. Foundations and shallow ground conditions were exposed and recorded in detail, with all trial pits sketched, photographed, and tagged for integration into the structural model. A clear factual report was delivered within tone week of completion of the works, providing the structural engineer with the reliable site-specific data required to progress design decisions with confidence.
